GHV Guatemala Mission 2025

In March of 2025, a group of 10 adventurous volunteers and 1 GHV staff member from across the United States traveled to Esquipulas, Guatemala for a primary care mission to conduct over 460 patient visits during 5.5 clinic days. The team traveled in the back of trucks to remote villages with extremely limited access to care.
Mission Highlights
There were many highlights during this 10-day mission, but what stood out most were the strong local partnerships—both new and long-standing. The team had the privilege of working alongside three local high school students, one university student, and a truck driver who all served as interpreters. Their support was invaluable, and we are hopeful that future collaborations with the local language school will create more volunteer opportunities for interpreters.
Another encouraging sign was seeing how recommendations from previous years were being implemented in various villages. On one clinic day, for example, the team arrived at a remote site to find that a local leader had prepared a patient list, complete with demographic details, current medications, and chief complaints. This level of organization and community investment made it possible for GHV providers to work more efficiently and offer more personalized care—demonstrating the growing ownership and sustainability of these local health efforts.
Follow-up
The team compiled a list of follow-ups and referrals that was given to our local partners and Benedictine Monks at the Basilica, along with funds to cover these follow-up expenses.
